WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE
//
I am delighted to welcome you to my website, where I will be sharing with you the latest news about my conducting experiences, and also some latest videos and pictures. My name is Evgenii Sakmarov, and I am from a small city called Almetyevsk. It is located in Tatarstan, which is an autonomous republic, and its capital and largest city is Kazan, one of the most important cultural centers of Tatarstan. When I was 18 years old, I moved to Kazan in order to study at the renowned Kazan State Conservatory, where I graduated with honor. I made my debut with the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra, one of the leading orchestras (led by the artistic director, and principal conductor Alexander Sladkovsky). Subsequently, in 2016 I was chosen for the position of the principal conductor of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Regional Charitable Foundation of the Republic of Tatarstan, 'Sforzando', and remained there until I left for Canada in 2019.
I feel honored to be a grant holder of the "Culture and Art" grant that was awarded to me by “TATNEFT”. With the funds, I was able to fulfill a long-cherished dream to move to Canada, where I started right away to study orchestral conducting with the renowned professors Jean-François Rivest and Paolo Bellomia at the University of Montreal. I was accepted into the PhD program which I just finished in Autumn 2021, with success. I had a very interesting subject, with a focus on the Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances. In June 2022, I was awarded the University of Montreal Faculty of Music Graduate Scholarship for high academic performance.
I am always grateful where I am at, but always excited about where I'm going. As Vincent Van Gogh said: 'I'm seeking, I'm striving, I'm in it with all my heart.' I am grateful for all the past and future opportunities that are given to me, to make music, to express my love for music through the works by great composers, and to make audiences happy.
Yours,
EVGENII SAKMAROV
